Running Streak History
On the first of January 2015, I set out to try and run every day for a year!
It all started off from a beer fuelled discussion after watching an autumn international rugby match at Twickenham where we hypothesised on the difficulty of various challenges. Between the three of us – Mike Jackson, James Yeardley and myself, we decided on running every day for a year.
Two months later, on the first of January, I got a text from Mike, saying that “Our Year” had started. Between the three of us, on that day, we managed to rope in another 13 “Streakers”. Coincidently, I had run on New years eve also, so I had a full day head start!
The rules were simple –
- Run at least a mile every day
- Every day, run at least a mile
- If in doubt, refer to 1 & 2!
2015 passed and of the 16 starters, there were 6 finishers and we picked up another 3 Streakers through the year. The six of us finished the year on New Years Eve with a mile run to the pub from Mike Jackson’s house where we were all presented with Run 365 Certificates from Christina Lawrence – one of the finishers.
Obviously, through the lunch, the question of who was going to run the following day came up………and a plan to run 1,000 days was hatched! Two of us were in – Christina Lawrence and me. We are both still on track and the 1,000 day milestone is now rapidly approaching and lands on the 25th September, which, as I am writing this, is 35 days away!
